We are at a really exciting point in our history. With a new Chief Executive and Chair-designate, and a refreshed narrative of purpose, Leonard Cheshire is demonstrably moving up a gear.
Our strategy review is also well underway, and there is a tangible sense that we are firmly on the front foot in terms of organisational shape, effectiveness and purpose. We are living our values of Proud, Positive and Pioneering, and really building on the strength of our highly respected brand – you’ll see much more evidence in the coming years of our determination to make the case for a fair and inclusive world.
A very significant aspect of this development is the appointment of a new Director of Fundraising & Marketing. Marcus Missen joins us from Water Aid with an outstanding track record of taking the case for support into new arenas, and transforming voluntary giving. While we already have a very robust statutory income book, our ambition is to increase voluntary income by an order of magnitude, and you will support Marcus and his team to design and build a fundraising function that will be the envy of the sector.
We also expect that social care reform will be a key factor in our business model over the coming 3-5 years, and we will look to you to provide the detailed analysis, modelling and forecasting that will enable us to optimize any changes in the external funding environment. The long-term evolution in the sector from residential provision to supported settings is well-understood and to be welcomed, and you will ensure that we understand and respond to this change in the most beneficial way for those we support.
In summary, this role offers the chance to work in a charity that’s in excellent health, with strong financial fundamentals and a reinvigorated sense of mission. Both in the UK and internationally, we are respected as experts in what we do, and are sought after by funders for the integrity and high quality of our work. If you’re looking for a role in which you can contribute an outstanding level of technical and commercial knowledge to the service of building a fairer, more inclusive world, this is the perfect opportunity.
